ISO/TC178 Plenary Meeting - Beijing

The Chairman of the China Elevator Association, Mr Ren TianXiao, offered that the association would host the the 2010 ISO/TC178 plenary meeting in Beijing. The ISO/TC178 committee is responsible for the development of all ISO lift and escalator standards and is chaired by Mr Christiaan De Mas Latrie of France. The planary meeting will take place on the 22nd and 23rd April at the Beijing International hotel which was the venue of the first ISO/TC178 plenary to be held in China in 1990.

A number of wroking groups (WG4, 5 & 6) will holding meetings in the days leading up to the plenary meeting at the same venue. WG4 (lift standards) will be meeting on the 19th and 20th April, while WG6 (Dimensions and Emergency standards) meets on the 20th and 2st April and WG5 (escalators) will be meeting from the 19th to 21st April.

The meeting coincides with the World Elevator Expo which will be held in the nearby city of Lang Fang from the 21st to the 24th April and is expected to be one of the largest elevator/escalator exhibition of its kind ever held with over 450 exhibitors. The Expo is sponsored by the China Elevator Assocation and organised by the Lang Fang Conference and Exhibition Company. The China elevator safety authority, AQSIQ, will also be holding a safety forum at the exhibition hall on the 23rd April which will include a number of imternational speakers.
